Nueva School

November 25, 2014
This project was a design competition for the Nueva School Hillside Learning Center project in Hillsborough. Our design recognizes the natural beauty of the Nueva site and the strong connection the school feels for this place. The essence of our design strategy was developing the natural path from upper to lower campus in a manner that weaves the campus together, creating a new whole in greater harmony with the learning resources of the site and creating interesting outdoor social places that will bind the learning community together. Individual buildings are designed (and will continue to evolve) to fit more closely and sensitivity to the immediate site and existing trees around them. The buildings allow the existing trees to remain and enter into dialog with the new uses on the hill. Materials for the buildings are not only sustainable, but will be carefully selected to connect to and enhance the natural character of the site.
